Why do you call yourself a Holistic Practitioner and not a Massage Therapist?
Throughout my experience, I have moved away from the “therapeutic” model of health and wellness. People are diagnosed, symptoms are calculated, and they are subjected to “treatment plans” with goals that they do not come up with themselves. I believe that the current therapeutic models of healthcare strip individuals from their personal power to affect their own healing. My approach is more holistic. You as the client are the most important person. You decide your goals for your own healing and well-being. I am present with you in a partnership, defined by your own healing experience.
Also, I have a variety of training in other modalities that I do not consider “massage therapy” - yet many political forces in other states have begun to restrict these practices only to those holding a massage therapy license. I believe that other forms of bodywork are valid and effective, and their practice should not be restricted in this manner. In honoring all of the other modalities I practice, including holistic massage, I integrate them into a much broader paradigm, and therefore a broader title for myself.
How much education, training, and experience do you have?
Since 1996, I have combined approximately 1500 clock hours of training in Massage Therapy, Acupressure, Reiki, Reflexology, Sport and Health Studies, and studies in Human Development relating to holistic health, sustainability, and non-violence. I am continuing my education to build a portfolio for possible national certification for massage and bodywork. I have been practicing massage and bodywork for seven years. Are you licensed as a Massage Therapist?
Minnesota does not license the practice of massage therapy, nor does the City of Minneapolis. I am Certified as a Massage Practitioner through the school I attended (Minneapolis School of Massage and Bodywork). Minnesota is a Freedom of Access state for Complimentary and Alternative Health Practitioners, meaning that practitioners are free to practice according to their training and education, and consumers are free to choose the practitioner with whom they are comfortable. Informed consent and a Client Bill of Rights is required by law for all Unlicensed Complimentary Health Practitioners. You may download a copy of my Client Bill of Rights here (PDF - Requires Adobe Reader).
How much pressure do you use?
I use a variety of pressure throughout a massage, according to your needs. I can perform deep tissue massage, but will ease into this pressure gradually to allow muscles the time and space needed to relax into deeper pressure.
Are there showers available at your facility?
No. There are no shower facilities in my office building.
Do you accept Credit Cards for payment?
I accept PayPal and Credit Cards when booking online only. I accept personal checks and cash when paying at my office at the time of your appointment.
Who does your website and where did you get those photos?
I have 9 years of experience in technology and am also a freelance web designer. I have created this website myself using WordPress, a free and open source blogging and content management system. The photos throughout the site are also my own. They are licensed under Creative Commons, and may be used for non-commercial purposes, so long as I am notified and proper credit is given to me as the photographer.
